That's the point of the straddle/strangle, I think
Admittedly I don't understand it all, but a straddle/strangle allows you to benefit regardless of whether the stock rises or falls. The only time you lose is if the stock doesn't move.

That's true for a long staffer but it's the opposite for a short straddle
