My dad, a former BYU TE (back in the 70s, and full disclosure, he ended up transferring to UW), has been nominated for an award in Richmond, Virginia. The award will go to someone who has been an amazing community member and he deserves it more than anyone I can imagine.

6 years ago, my parents became aware of a 14 year old who had grown up in an abusive relationship. His mother was a crackhead and his dad in jail for child porn. His aunt had him and he was too much trouble, his grandpa had him and then rejected him. So my parents took him in. It was that, or he'd be In a facility until he was 18. He was a nightmare, but they kept him for 5 years and still help him. He has gone to jail and they are the only ones that visit him.

After he left, they took a girl whose mom killed herself. She was almost as bad as he was. But she had no one. While she was there, they found out about a 14 year old with Down syndrome whose mom malnourished him. He was 13 and 32 pounds. Every night for 6 months my dad changed his feeding tube until he could eat solids. That's how bad it was. He is now 15 and has doubled his weight and learned to talk.
And, they are in the process of adopting him.

They did all this while raising my brother, who also has Down syndrome.

Anyway, if he wins he gets a 10k cosmetic dental fix. He actually needs it. Vote for Frank (and note that the picture is wrong -- good up by the website).
