Football season has arrived. Monday, Game Week 1. Teams are in full preparation mode for their respective opponents. Sports writers ramp up their talking points, and talking heads begin to forge ahead in to season talk.
I'm never sad when Summer ends. This year is no different.
I'm glad there will be something to focus on this week other than Donald Trump. I'm glad that September is just around the corner. I'm excited that the days are getting shorter. The days are getting slightly cooler; a minuscule taste of the crispy fall weather that is to come.
The past few years have taught us Cougar Fans how to get excited about the team, albeit wary of any missteps. As a program, BYU stands peculiar amongst it's competition. There is an unusual pressure that rests on the shoulders of the players, one we know they try to suppress, even ignore. But it's there. Independence puts it there. The name of the church puts it there. The honor code puts it there. The fans high expectations put it there.
And yet, these young men train, condition their bodies to incredibly high standards, and suit up every day, for a chance every weekend to go out and represent us all, as a Band of Brothers. They sweat, bleed, some even break.
Why?
Because they love this game.
All their hard work has been building up to this moment. A gauntlet of a road schedule. The nation's biggest venues. National TV broadcast right out of the gate.
So pumped for the 2015 campaign, LET'S GET EM!!
GO COUGARS!!!
