was going to create water, the long science monologues were less of an issue in the movie. Plenty of talk about telemetry and sols, but it was probably best encapsulated by a combination of science and swearing when Whatney just says "I'm going to science the blankety blank out of this" without further explanation.

I started skimming the last half of the book when he got into the detailed scientific tangents that I found fascinating at first and less interesting as the book went on, but I didn't have the same issue with the movie, which I liked quite a bit.
