I think you have to run a certain amount to see how the D is playing the run
Identify how defensive players are shifting, or blitzing, or plugging holes, and which gaps might be left open. You can't tell that kind of thing if you only run it two or three times -- you have to keep at it, even when you're not gaining significant yards from it. You can then adjust your blocking schemes for that.
