The Temple @ Cinci game must have been a weird one

Cinci outgained Temple 557yds to 296yds but lost because of turnovers and big special teams play;

  • Kiel threw 4 INTS
  • 5 turnovers overall vs. Temple's 1
  • Temple took advantage of TOs
  • Temple also ran back TD at the beginning of the 2nd half (big special teams play)

Despite this Cinci still had a chance to tie it up late, but Kiel's 4th INT came with a minute left in the endzone.

These games are weird to me because it's obvious Cinci was moving the chains seemingly at will (they had 34 first downs vs. Temple's 13!), but couldn't ever find a way to take the lead.  apart from TOs, another thing that sticks out - Temple controled the clock.  Despite only 13 first downs they grinded out 31:34 in possesion, they beat Cinci on the ground - 215yds.

The take away for us in this, is we can still beat Cinci without nessesarily stopping the air raid.  I hate the bend don't break tactic, but it worked for Temple this game, they let Cinci have space, but ultimately took advantage on the one or two plays of the series where they messed up.  They were smart with their possesions, just one turnover.

All that said - we need to be ready in both pass and rush D.  Cinci seems to have stepped back on the pass attack in favor of the run (so it appears vs. Miami and they benefited from it).
