they don't make good decisions or fill their assignments on the court/field, then you just can't play them no matter how talented they are.
That's why you have teams in the NBA that suck.
Everybody is extremely talented but not everyone makes good decisions on when to pass/cut/shoot/etc.
That's why Bronco's defenses have been so successful even when he plays so many walk-ons. Because he plays who he trusts and those players gain his trust in practice and then in games by doing what they're supposed to do and correcting mistakes when they do make errors in judgment. When you combine that with good athletic talent then you get the defenses we had a few years ago when we had all these NFL guys that were dominating.
But, it starts with trust. We don't know if MLP is doing everything expected of him in all aspects of his role. There's obviously going to be a learning curve. Fans don't see this element. We just see their athletic ability and assume if they're fast or make tremendous catches here and there that they should always be in there.
What we don't see is if they missed a block or ran the wrong route or whatever assignment they're asked to fill.
