That is a university honors question?
Well, I graduated in the honors program at a real school (BYU) so I'll answer this one.
I would form an elite military unit and wipe out the other settlers so that we could maximize the food and water storage. Five years is just not long enough. Natural selection, or Lord of the Flies (whatever metaphor works for you).
