Honestly, though, without hearing what it sounds like and checking a few things out I have no idea. However, I had a fuel pump issue (one of the electrical lines shorted out) and my car shut off just like you described (i.e. it started right up and when I put it into gear it immediately shut off and wouldn't restart).
