From an employment law perspective, personal matters, that become public
and paint the person/institutions in a negative light may be the basis of a termination.
For example, the exec a couple of years ago who filmed himself trashing a Chick-fil-a employee for the owner's support of traditional marriage cost the guy his job. This is not exactly an apples to apples comparison, but it is just an example of how non-work issues can affect employment.
