i can't begin to understand how hard that would have been

deployment would be hard enough, but to go just after getting married would be crazy although I know it was not completely unheard of in WW2. My aunt and uncle were relatively newly married and she was expecting when he was shipped out to fight at Iwo Jima. I am very glad that I have not had to experience any of that.
