We used to have a fridge in the garage where the freezer would pop open when you shut the fridge.
It would just barely be ajar, but enough that everything would melt. I had to get a latch to keep the freezer shut.
That doesn't really relate to your problem, though. I've got the fridge with the beeping now, that would probably do the trick. I don't think you can add that on later, though.
