Texas, is at the top of the food chain already and just wants even more. BYU on the other hand is trying to stay relevant and not be cast into outer darkness. BYU lost its only voting partner in Utah when they bolted for the Pac-12 (I don't blame them for that). The rest of the old MWC was content to just draw a paycheck and leech off of BYU without much regard to raising the profile of the conference. The 'special provisions' BYU sought for in terms of visibility for their fans was promised and broken time and time again. What motivation was there for BYU to continue to prop up that conference?
