Growing up outside Utah, and not having BYU alumni in my immediate family, my fandom was mostly because it was the Church school. My early childhood years, BYU was my 2nd-favorite college team, behind my dad's alma mater, which he raised me to cheer for. Sometime around 12 or so, it switched, during the Ty Detmer years. My friends were huge BYU fans, and that caused me to switch. We would go to the stake center to watch games every week. Then I went to BYU and that just solidified it.
