i'd be excited but nervous. i, for one, liked the movies. LOTR much more than hobbit but i think some of the hobbit disaster was studio related. Peter Jackson nails middle earth pretty well. i'd hate to be the guy to follow him and weta. the bar has been set pretty dang high, hobbit miscues notwithstanding.

maybe christopher tolkien ok'd it with the idea he'd get to approve stuff? who knows. he's publicly stated he didn't care for PJ's work in LOTR and the hobbit.
