Just wanted to vent on behalf of my teenage son
He’s our super athletic kid of the 4 we’ve had. He unfortunately had to undergo big surgery on both knees for patella (knee cap) instability 2 years ago after dislocating multiple times while he was growing. It took him 6 months to rehab each knee, and it was brutally painful. The success rate is >90-95% no further instability. He got back into shape and became a VB star after giving up soccer and bball (didn’t want to return to the sports he played while getting dislocations). He’s played a full year with no issues until he felt a small pop and pain 4 months ago doing weights. Surgeon checked him out and MRI said the repair was intact, but to wear a heavier brace and decrease heavier weights, which he has. He unfortunately had a full subluxation today (popped back into place) at VB practice with the brace on and has been in pain since coming home. He is absolutely devastated as they are midseason and he’s the team captain and they have their rivalry game tomorrow. He knows he’ll have to rest it for a while and likely misses the rest of the season. He also knows other than not ever playing sports, which isn’t his wish, a revision or further surgery will require at least 6 months of recovery and rehab again. I’m seriously at a loss right now.

He’s also just tried turning his spiritual life around the last few months, working towards getting his patriarchal blessing and preparing for a mission next year…my heart is breaking for the kid. He’s trying so hard. Praying for him, but I can’t imagine what is going through his head.
