As a B12 team, the margin of error is too small for us to have no HC for 2-3 weeks and if our AD's office is still operating like it is 2018 and we are in the MWC/WCC, then that process in and of itself will stand in the way of our ability to attract a good coach and talented players.

If we have a new HC by later on this week then that'll give them time to recruit back the current players in the portal (Saunders and Hall are huge for us) and possibly even get a shot at making a pitch to Chandler (not sure when that ship sails legally on contacting him). Any new HC is going to want to consider picking up some portal guys, so you can't expect all of the existing players to just sit around, but the ability to recruit your portal players back diminishes over time.

On the other hand, if we wait until the first week of May, the likelihood of those players being off the table will go way up and it may take a few years to recover. I'd take a known commodity in Hall and Saunders over an unknown in the portal any day of the week, but those players will be getting exploding offers and they'll have to make decisions quickly and BYU is effectively out out of the competition until an HC is in place.

I'm cool with BYU having an extra day or two added because of the "bretheren" interviews, but our AD's office should have those lined up even more quickly given the known lag associated with that part of the process. The most recent hire in women's BB suggests they have not adapted at all, which is concerning to me.
