I appreciate his desire to be discreet and keep who was on the other side of the phone private, but there wasn't a person listening to him that didn't know it was either Ainge or Smith. I also have to wonder what his thought was when he saw the caller id? I wonder if his initial reaction was like, "Oh the Jazz want to talk to me," or if he knew it was going to be BYU related? Imagine being an NBA guy for so long and interviewing for HC jobs all over the country, then having an owner of a team give you a call out of the blue. You have to think maybe they are gauging interest about coming to Utah to coach, but nah we want you for college. That's gotta be a hard shift in your mindset.
