me, top LDS talent bailing on BYU whether it is Football, Basketball or any other sport really bums me out. I still think if the best of all LDS kids came to BYU, it would be the best way to get a national championship in each sport. If they are great ambassadors at other schools and shine a brighter light on the Church and the gospel, that is wonderful. But it seems to me that if BYU consistently were a top contender, that would bring a much bigger focus to the Church and its principles.
For players like Khalifa leaving, it is sad because they are such good people who give a chance for other's outside the Church to see that anyone can succeed and shine at BYU if they put in the effort. Khalifa will be one of my all-time favorites for a number of reasons, and I will definitely pay attention to how he is doing elsewhere. I wish him nothing but success.
But for Chandler, I don't think I will ever care what he does if he never comes to BYU.
