I'm still trying to wrap my head around this... but one of my son's friends from high school (in Utah) attempted to overthrow the current Democratic Republic of Congo government.

It turns out this kid's (estranged) biological father was the Self-Exhiled 'United Congolese Party leader' ... and this boy reconnected with him sometime after high school graduation (~4 years ago).

The dad died in the coup attempt and this kid (who I can't help but see in my mind as the little chubby smiling teenager i remember) is in DRC custody. I assume you don't participate in a government takeover in Africa without consequences.

I feel bad for this kid, but at the same time... choices were made.
