Another question:
Imagine there is no ladder in the bore and someone drops a ball on one side of the bore. What happens when the ball reaches the center? Gravity should eventually pull it to the center and it will float in midair

You'd be weightless in the center of the core. The mass of the earth would be pulling you in every direction equally.
