It’s hard to navigate if you’re not on a cruise, though. And that defeats the point of Alaska if you’re able bodied
It’s spectacular for sure… but just not as easy to get around by yourself. It’s also a lot rainier.

I took my family there a couple summers ago. We didn't make it to Homer but we did a whale watching tour out of Seward.
