My daughter got the same request for her schollie.
I think it's a way BYU is trying to connect the donor/family with the recipient, and allow the recipient to show gratitude to the person who endowed their schollie.
I like it.

You can't dictate who it goes to, if you do that it isn't tax deductable IIRC
