coaches based on the HC and BYU's Church affiliation (at least, that's what's implied). I just don't buy that. I'm not for firing Bronco; however, I think the guy needs to be accountable. His contract is up after next season, I believe. I think Holmoe and the BOT need to hold Bronco accountable every bit as much as he holds his players accountable. Does Bronco "execute at a higher level"? Has he really been "assignment sound"? Does Bronco "try really, really hard" when it comes to how he manages and delegates?
I just don't accept the notion that we have to embrace Bronco because BYU can't get anyone better. Is there a better coach who can make good hires? I think so. I'm not calling for that right now, but I tire of the suggestion that Bronco is doing as well as anyone possibly could at BYU given the circumstances. I'm just not buying that.
As for the rest of your comments, we are in agreement. Injuries - well, they always seem to be an issue with BYU. But, the lack of discipline, penalties, poor defense that we know would be better under Bronco - that has been very troubling. Then, when Bronco doubles down by subtly going after fans for leaving early in the UNR post game - well, that's a head scratcher.
Oh well, I'm boarding a flight to Boise in a couple hours. Here's hoping we are discussing a 5-3 BYU team on Saturday and singing Bronco's praises for how the effort has truly been taken "to a higher level".
