I dated his wifes sister, who was actually living with them at the time, and was able to be around him for some time. Great guy and I really like him. The way he explained it to me was that he really likes the Y and doesn't get why people would attack him for coaching at Utah. "It's purely a job, all I'm doing is providing the best I can for my family. I have nothing against BYU and will always love and respect them but Utah is my employer and I am completely devoted to them"
I could easily see him jumping at the chance to coach at the Y. BUT I don't want him as our head coach.
He may turn out to be a great coach but honestly I would need to see more from him before I would want him to be BYU's head coach. Utah's defense is a system that was set up by Whitt's father and has been carried on from coach to coach. My mission companion that played 2 years under Urban and 2 under Whitt as the head coach, told me that he didn't think anything would change with Whitt becoming the head coach and Sitaki taking over the defense. "It's a system that is set up and it's not dependent, so much, as to who is running it. I predict it won't change much with Coach Sitaki taking over, just like it didn't change with Coach Whitt taking over the defense."
My ideal situation would be for Whitt to be fired and Sitaki to be let go and Bronco snatches him up. I would rather have him be our defensive coordinator than our head coach.
