that is so true. This is why I applaud the Playoff (old BCS) poll
that now comes out later in the year.
Starting the season outside the top 25 makes it very difficult to even think of reaching the top 12 - unless one has a magical season and hope teams in front of you trip at the right time.
So yes they do matter but are totally unreliable.
