Joe Pa said after the game that on the final drive where Mo Elowanibi (the Outland Trophy winner that year) missed his only block of the year that lead to the strip and score of Detmer, said that he threw every defense against TY that he could think of and could not stop the kid. He thought for sure that Detmer would lead BYU down the field for the game winning TD.

Ty was a threat to lead a team to the end zone every time he was under center. The biggest testament to his greatness as a college QB was who he was throwing to him. He was throwing to Eric Beleini, Brent Nyberg, Andy Boyce, Chris Smith, etc. While they were all good, if not great college players, none of them had breakaway speed.

The best receiver Detmer ever had was Eric Drage who was a sophomore when Detmer was a senior.
