nothing you said there really refutes the claim that BYU is in the drivers seat
you essentially said three things there
1. His dad is a ute fan
2. the utes have offered him
3. he lives with his dad
None of that means BYU isn't in the drivers seat. In fact, you admitted you don't really have any idea which parent might influence him the most. You don't know which school he feels is the better fit. In your post, you didn't say anything about which team he is a fan of. You didn't mention any inside info from conversations you've had with the dad.
In fact, you did say one thing that would support the fact BYU is in the drivers seat - you said, he "has his head on straight". yep, he's coming to BYU.
