theme of the board right now, and it's just stupid. Chandler hasn't played a minute of ball in two years. That's going to hurt him. Davis is probably pretty good, but we've had, what, 168 big white guys from Idaho on our roster in the last 10 years? Color me skeptical.

Plus, everyone is talking about what we LOSE (which, other than probably Pope, is so far nothing) but not about what we GAIN. Any incoming coach will be able to bring whoever he wants, to recruit staff from almost anywhere he likes. This is BRIGHAM YOUNG we're talking about. Top-25 program. Big XII exposure. You want to move up as a coach, BYU is massively attractive. We are no longer a second-tier WCC team, and this board keeps acting like we are.

Anyone that could get the job would bring players with him, and have a pipeline of his own. Maybe it wouldn't be as good as what Pope has, but I don't know anyone that thinks Mark Pope is an especially good recruiter. He does a lot of things well, but that hasn't notably been one of them.

Maybe--I admit it's possible--whoever comes here will just be totally lost and the program will be nuked. But, dude, that's just not reality. This isn't Santa Clara. We finished 5th in the toughest conference in the world. Whoever coaches this team next year will have big, BIG guns to use when he goes out hunting.
