Also, my challenge was to find a case where a head coach was fired specifically so as to promote an assistant for fear of losing him to another team. The only example I can think of that was similar is BYU with Brandon Doman. In both cases it is a risky proposal. It probably would have worked out for the Jazz, but it clearly didn't work out for BYU.
