To further the point, I didn't create the IRS account
Someone created one using my SSN, and the IRS method of verification allowed them to use information they could find online (or wherever they got my SSN)
Ah, back in the days when I was at BYU and our SSN was our student ID, and I had checks printed with my SSN on them so I didn't have to write it on the checks.
