From 1998-2003, the BCS system used computer rankings to generate half of the BCS score.
Two SEC teams made a total of 6 championship games. Tennessee and LSU both won.
2003 was the split national championship between LSU and USC, and the pollsters lobbied for a higher score because of that split. From 2004-2013, computers made up one third of the score.
In that time frame, 9 SEC teams made 10 championship games. But, it was hard to argue that the best team hadn't been represented, because they won 7 of those championship games.
