One of our assignments was to watch a basketball practice.
The practice I attended got off to a very slow start. There was no life there. Coach Cleveland kept clapping his hands and pleading with the team to get the energy up as they were slogging through some drills. Finally, Cleveland had enough and just gave a look to Schroyer.
Schroyer just started screaming at the team using words that Cleveland wasn't going to use and at a volume that Cleveland couldn't match. He kicked a player out of practice. The tempo picked up big time. It was a lesson to me that it is a pretty good idea to have someone on the staff who has a different personality than the head coach. Sometimes players aren't going to respond the way the head coach wants them to. It's good to have a different voice using different tactics.
I would welcome Schroyer back at BYU.
