I think people talk about NIL and, for some reason, think the money is pretend or compare it to NBA pay. Compare it to the average pay for a Bachelor's degree for first 3 years after graduating. I'm not going to look the number up, but I bet it is like $60K/year. I wouldn't be shocked if it was less. So $180k/3 years versus $900K before graduating.
All that is to say . . . this is so much money for people who otherwise have very low earning potential that I really, really, don't understand anbody who thinks kids are being selfish or short-sighted by chasing it. Even if it means transferring. Even if it means not playing at a school you love. OF COURSE you chase that kind of money. And it is enough that if well managed could change the course of your life. You are in no way set for life, but it is HUGE step up.
