Just reading some of the posts about the breakdown between the two fan bases in the state.

BYU has the edge overall in amount of fans within the state. But you have to admit there have been been big increases in Ute fans over the last 15-20 years when Utah started making bowls. In the 80s and into the early 90s, it was all BYU. The Cougars still have a larger % of fans in Utah but the advantage is not as much as it used to be.

I'm always surprised by how many people in wear Ute gear now and how drug stores, Wal-Mart, etc. at least in SL County are always packed with Ute red and often there's often no BYU gear, and when there is, it's only a t-shirt or two off to the side. It wasn't like that before so it's a big change from the past.

BYU should become more pro-active in PR if it wants to keep its advantage with the state fan demographics and sell the BYU product to younger fans. However, things will continue trending toward the Utah only IF the school can put a better product on the football field and become more competitive in the PAC-12.
