Regrettably, the running culture was hijacked 10 years ago by the gym rat crowd.

Now all you see is people running with their water bottles and iPods. They all congratulate each other for their diligence that some how makes them more special than everybody else. It's annoying and I haven't run an organized race since 2000 because of it. I still run religiously, but only privately.
