A beef with the Ragnar trail series
I ran a couple Wasatch Back Ragnars with my in-laws, and while I enjoyed both, the novelty seemed to wear off during the second one. As a result, I don't have plans to do it again because of the enormous registration fee. My FIL has footed the bill for everyone in the past, but I have no desire to hand over that much money to drive around in a van for 24 hours like has been mentioned.

I recently became interested in trail series because of the camping aspect. However, when I googled it, it looked like the registration fee (per person) is even greater for the trail series. Unlike marathons, the Ragnar trail series really doesn't seem to provide any real benefits other than marking where the trails go. For example,

1) the race is held on trails, so they don't have to block off giant sections of city roads,
2) they don't provide food/water along the course (they don't do much of that in the regular Ragnar, either),
3) you still have to provide a volunteer.

It seems like I'm paying a whole lot for something I can recreate myself.
