The inconsistency that year is a pretty easy to explain. Wynn was fairly healthy the first six-seven games of the season and then hurt his shoulder again. The first game after his injury, I went up to the Wyoming game (who had a TERRIBLE defense) and Utah only scored 30 on them. IIRC, Wynn had three interceptions and a lot of poorly-thrown passes. The rest of the season (including the ND loss) was a disaster for the offense.
