RE: I love our team
Talk about a captive audience. If we keep losing the only people that will be interested in attending these firesides will be prisoners.

Last I checked the best missionaries in BYU football history were stars from excellent teams. I'm an alum living in Southern California and just the other day the LA radio show had Ty Detmer on as a guest. He openly discussed his faith. That's a great missionary. When's the last time someone invited Riley Nelson to a big market call in show where 99.9% of the listeners only contact with the church is BYU football?

People outside the LDS church just aren't interested and won't be drawn to BYU football if they continue to be mediocre. Firesides are a worthy use of time and I love the service but LaVelle was a great missionary because he won games and he brought millions of eyes to the program that wouldn't have been looking otherwise. The job of the head coach should be to make the team great on and off the field and he shoulnd't get a pass just because he throws great firesides and beats the teams he should beat. If that's in the job description let's have Elder Holland coach the team.
