My family grew up ALWAYS eating out on Thanksgiving (and we still often do)
In the Portland area, there were/are quite a few mid-to-upscale restaurants that offer Thanksgiving buffets. Tip well!
If you're looking a little more downscale, we went to Chicken Out Rotisserie for a couple of D.C. Thanksgivings, but I'm sure other similar places (e.g. Boston Market) also do good business on Turkey Day.
