Merry Christmas ! And other stuff
At the Wisconsin game I sat down near our teams sideline and had a good chat with the same individual who has given me all past info. It was clear to him BYU will remain Indy for the foreseeable future. He along with others have been assured BYU will be numbered among the power teams as BYU has committed to fulfill all expected financial requirements (stipends).
It's believed the PAC 12 would likely expand within the next 2 years and BYU will NOT be one of those schools. I asked why and he rolled his eyes and said it just will never happen. He mentioned BYU staff is very disappointed with Utah. Utah is nervously creating a perception of being a power team and thus avoiding any events that remind viewers otherwise. The PAC conference is not holding Utah back, Utah is the sole culprit. His example was Colorado not interrupting the CSU series and BYU's October home/home series with Oregon State. Utah wanted a two year break from basketball as well.
He also said the main reason BYU did not accept a big 12 union was because the Conference was too unstable at the time and BYU essentially said "yes, but not now". Interestingly he stated the Big 12 is still just as unstable now and BYU still has a 'wait and see approach' with them. He thinks Texas plans to leave within the next 5 years. When this happens the remaining schools will retain a Power status but will need to add many schools which is why schools like CSU, Wyoming, Uconn, Cincy etc are preparing themselves for inclusion.
Happy Christmas season !
