and meaning no disrespect at all to usmcboot, I didn't get what was so rip worthy about cougarbart's post. Do I get that many people would love to be able to go to med school, but they can't for one reason or another? Yes I do. Do I get that members of the military do an enormously important work in dangerous conditions and for less pay than they deserve? I get that too. And I respect them for that very much.
That said, respecting what members of the military do doesn't have to stop me from respecting the sacrifices that have to be made to get through medical school. To become and MD or DO, you get to go to a lot more years of school than just about anyone else and then your initial reward is a residency where you spend at least a year being sleep deprived and paid poorly.
As Obamacare takes hold, people will feel more and more entitled to the services they receive from doctors. There will be more downward pressure on doctor salaries. And more and more of our best and brightest will answer "no" to the question of whether it's worth it to go through the process of becoming a doctor. More and more of them will come to that conclusion and decide to take another career path. The quality and quantity of doctors will worsen. And we'll all suffer.
We have people come on the board and complain about finals in undergraduate studies. Had cougarboard existed when I was an undergrad, I probably would have posted a complaint or two during finals week. It's human nature. People complain about all sorts of things on here. And, as long as that isn't a high percentage of an individual's communication, I'm not sure there's anything wrong with that.
