Scrimmage Report
Just my take on scrimmage,

I was really impressed with our defensive front and the depth that is there. A lot of big boys and I know many were held out (Rowley, Tuiloma, Peck, etc.) Peoples is huge and he cannot be moved. There was one play were he stood up the center and just held him off with one hand while he wrapped up the ball carrier for a loss. He got winded fast, but man he is just as advertised. I used to think he should move to OL, but not anymore. He will play in the league, reminded me of Star Lotulailai and Holoti Ngata (Not as consistent, but ability-wise). Austin Heder looks like a starter, and I think he will see a lot of reps during games. Trammel is quick and was always an arms length away from his guy in man to man. One play Kurtz ran a slant and the ball was delivered on time and he couldn't make the catch because trammel was all over him as soon as the ball arrived.

The other guy on the DL I liked was Josh Carter. I know. Who? He moved from OL and I think he had two fumble recoveries and two TFL. He has got a motor and it kind of looked like Jan Jorgensen was out there again. Just was able to shed blocks and disrupt everything. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the two deep.

Taysom looked poised and knew when to throw and where. The best play he had was the deep touchdown throw to Houk. He looked off the safety until the last second and delivered a good (maybe underthrown a little) ball and Houk did the rest dragging Trammel from 7 yards out into the endzone. I really was impressed with Houk and actually think he is more like Hoffman than Kurtz. There were a ton of sets where Houk lined up outside and used his size. Kurtz reminded me of a thinner version of Apo. I really think he would be great if he redshirted and put on 10-15 lbs. Colby Pearson is the next Skyler Ridley and probably will be in the rotation.

The worst stuff on the offense was unfortunately the OL. I think Crichton is going to hold his own, he is big 340 lbs and all muscle. Ului was 6'6'' 300lbs and reminded me of Jeremiah Poututau (sp?) on Utah. Just looks like OT. Saw DeAndre Wesley on the sidelines and he dwarfs everybody. Noticed too many low snaps which I think really throw off Hills rhythm. He rushes a little bit because he has to take his attention off of the secondary to gathers the snap. Wish that would get fixed.

TEs look improved and involved more in the passing game. I saw one play where Sampson went untouched up the field on a seam and the QB (Stewart) just didn't see it. Not worried about TEs at all.

Mike Davis is fast. He caught a huge 40+ yarder on a deep post. He can spread the field. He was also running back the kick offs. Not sure where Hine was?

RBs, a lot of JD Falslev look a likes running around out there. I really couldn't tell the difference between any of them and they really didn't do anything to impress me. Fumbles were a problem.

Overall: Defense won because of all the TOs. They forced a lot of 3rd and longs and just plugged up the middle. Taysom is a lot better than last spring game. Hopeful the OL rounds out going into fall. The pieces are there I think.

On a side note, I sat by some recruits. One was really interested in the game while the other was texting his girlfriend the whole time. When the offense scored the interested recruit clapped and tried to get the other guy to clap. He said, "why I ain't going here" and the other one said, "oh yeah you got a girlfriend" and made fun of him a little bit. It was just a funny interaction.
