People claim there are a few high ranking church authorities who would love to eliminate the expense of sports at BYU. And with church membership stagnant or declining since about 2009 it has to be something they will at least have to consider going forward. If you look at the church from a business standpoint, is there enough ROI from sports to make it worthwhile? Certain donations to BYU would end. Exposure for the university would end. But maybe those things aren't as valuable as we think? I really don't know.
