think. In one sense, I'd agree with you in terms of it ultimately impacting his decision. However, in a more strict or literal sense, his response and reaction (including a couple of other instances) suggest he probably does care significantly about what others are saying or thinking about him.

Heightened sensitivity is probably somewhat indicative of greater degree of "caring what people think". I don't think that's really either positive or negative, but I think it's true.
