It would be inaccurate to claim that a screwdriver is infinitely more useful than a hammer. They are different tools with different purposes.
CB is intended to be a community for people who have a common interest in BYU. Primarily, or at least originally, it was a sports forum, but it has extended way beyond that. Just last night I got help from CB with a math problem from my daughter's homework.
FB, on the other hand, is for interacting with many different people from every facet of your life. That interaction can be very passive on your part, too, and yet you can still learn about people. I have a very large extended family that all lives in AZ, whereas I live in UT. I find out about what most of them are doing from FB without having to actively reach out to them. As an uncle with 46 nieces an nephews, that's a pretty nice thing. Sometimes, I reach out to them on a post, but most of the time it's passive. But it makes ALL of us feel like we're keeping in touch.
I already posted on the other thread how I use FB for keeping in touch with my converts from my mission. Because of Facebook I have learned about, and been able to keep in touch with, two particular converts. I have learned things about their activity in the church, and how the gospel has spread to their families that has literally made me come to tears for joy.
Different tools for different projects.
