not, but in the "real world" you are paid based on whatever others think you are worth. Everyone is not paid the same in the real world. Are coaches all paid the same?
As far as teams not being able to afford to pay football players and maintain their athletics program, this is not true for many/most schools...that is just something that schools have wanted to make you believe. Jay Bilas already addressed this in the article below. The One point I took from this is that there is a wide disparity on how much coaches are paid at different universities and somehow the programs still manage to make money. Why all of the sudden do they go bankrupt if you start paying players? Why would BYU not be willing to pay its football players 100k (assuming they are worth that)...the university already pays its other employees.
To be honest I don't think that most athletes will see much of a change from the compensation they currently get (a scholarship), but for the upper tier athletes, I do see that they will (and should) get much more than they get now...and maybe even be able to attend autograph shows and (gasp!) keep the money they get...
