We did it 10 years ago when the water level was technical too high for hikers
We got there and planned to do the narrows and angel's landing, but the ranger said the water in the narrows was running just over the limit, but thought it could be lower the next day, so we did angels landing first.

The next day we checked in, and the water was still too high, but the ranger pretty much said 'if you decide to go, there's nothing I can do to stop you.' So we got dry suits, hiked all the way up and then jumped in the river and floated our way back out. It was great.

All that to say that I agree with you - wait until the water is higher.
