The third set turned out to be the most competitive as BYU went for the sweep. With the score tied at 6-6, the home-court advantage literally made a difference as a Cougar dig struck the only portion of a speaker up in the rafters that was in play.
BYU continued playing, knowing the ball was still live and Rivera set the ball back to USC — but the Trojans assumed the ball was out and had already huddled up to prepare for the next point.
