just playing... sorry man, that sucks. I didn't have my first fraud until 3 years of owning the credit card. I've had them for 10 years now and the number was changed after Target fiasco, but no other fraud has been found.
but really, I'm surprised they allowed those transactions to go through (South Africa? Really Amex?)
I heard a talk the other day that revolved around credit card companies and how much fraud they will tolerate before they take action. The numbers thrown out were that they like to keep it between 8 and 30 basis points. Interestingly, some fraud in the system allows them to keep fraud from running rampant, so they allow some fraud to always remain. If they can tell what the bad guys are doing, the bad guys won't do things they aren't able to detect.
